Polar
bears are known to have a fat body and are adored for its white fur.
People visit the Arctic Ocean to catch polar bears mainly. A polar bear
can never be imagined skinny and almost dying due to lack of food. A
picture has recently gone viral which shows an extremely skinny polar
bear. According to the photographer it was the first time he saw a
skinny polar bear.
- The skinniest polar bear alive
Meet
the skinniest polar bear alive. This is the photo taken by wildlife
photographer Kerstin Langenberger near the shores of Svalbard in the
Arctic Ocean. When asked to report to the media he said that most of the
time he has seen beautiful fat polar bears that are generally female
along with their family. However, he has also seen some horribly skinny
female polar bears and captured one. When asked about the reason, he
explained that in the Arctic Ocean beautiful polar bears are facing a
dangerous scenario. They are victims of harsh climate change. The ice in
the sea has melted as a result of high temperatures.
- Polar bear hunting seal
As
ice is melting faster, polar bears are unable to gather food for them.
This is mainly because these beds of ice in the sea are the main spots
where the polar bears are seen hunting seals. Without the ice the polar
bears are searching for other food sources like caribou and snow geese.
But, the main problem with these food sources is that they are less
abundant in and around the Arctic Ocean. The amount of caribou that
grows on land is not enough to feed these large bears. As, a result
polar bears are roaming around hungry. The photo captured by
Langenberger seems to stand as the best example.
There
are near about 3,000 polar bear in Svalbard. The number ranges from
20,000 to 25,000 as far as the whole world is concerned. But, the future
looks grim from the photo captured by Langenberger. Scientists are also
quite worried about the future of the polar bears and there is also a
great debate over the already existing number of polar bears. Sometimes
it is seen that polar bears could not stand the tough situation and
dies. This is no doubt a heart breaking fact. However, some scientists
are there who opines that some polar bear species are actually stable in
the world.
- Dead polar bear
The
photographer Langenberger is further of the opinion that mother bears
that are going north to look for food in the land are losing their cubs
just within two years. This is also evidence which proves that the
number of polar bears in the world is gradually decreasing. Young bears
are also suffering due to lack of food and growing up as skinny. This is
the grim reality of the beautiful Arctic Ocean at present. The picture
of the skinny bear is horrifying enough and makes it clear that it is
high time we should try to control temperature rise.
